US Senate confirms : Moriarty as Ambassador to Bangladesh

The United States Senate has confirmed James Francis Moriarty to be Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the US to Bangladesh. Ambassador Moriarty, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and Class of Minister-Counselor, is expected to arrive Dhaka “in the near future to begin his new assignment,” a US Embassy announcement said yesterday.(The New Nation)

Earlier, President George W. Bush nominated Moriarty, of Massachusetts, as the Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the USA to Bangladesh.

Moriarty, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, most recently served as the US Ambassador to Nepal.

Prior to this, he served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Asian Affairs on the National Security Council. Earlier in his career, he served as a Counselor in the Political Section of the American Embassy in Beijing.

James Moriarty was born in Ware, Massachusetts. He received his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH. He entered the Foreign Service in 1975.

His wife Lauren Moriarty is also a career diplomat, who served as the US Ambassador to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum. She holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Hawaii (1976) and a M.A.L.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (1978). James Moriarty and Lauren Moriarty have two children–son Mana and daughter Kate.

Moriarty also served as the Director for Asian Affairs of the US National Security Council, Political Minister-Counselor, Beijing, China, US State Department, Chief, General Affairs Section, American Institute in Taiwan, US State Department and Deputy Director, Office of UN Political Affairs (1991-93), US State Department
