Gargantuan antenna picks up WiFi up to 1,000 feet away

Wi-Fire

When you live on your laptop, as I sometimes do, those times when you can’t seem to pick up a decent wireless signal can be killer. The worst is when you have just a sliver of a signal, which is just enough to frustrate you. In situations like that, your only option is generally to move yourself closer to the router. If you can’t do that, you’re out of luck. That is unless you get a Wi-Fire, which will pick up a signal from far away.

How far away will you get a signal? hField Technologies claims that the Wi-Fire will pick up a wireless signal from up to 1,000 feet away. Granted, this USB antenna needs to be pointed in the direction of the router, and you’ll need to have a clear line of sight to get the full range. Don’t worry though, you’ll still get a great signal even when you don’t have line of sight.

The only real downside about this device is its sheer size. You can see from the picture that it sticks out like a sore thumb on your laptop. Honestly, if it gets me a signal where I couldn’t otherwise, I can live with the large size. You can pick one up for around $80.
